Creating Your First Canvas Art Painting
Over and again, a local resident from Bridgewater has put on canvas the spectacular image of Shenandoah Valley. This artist has been painting for 36 years and her goal is not just to paint nature and carry around oils and easel in mountain ridges and rolling cornfields. She also paints using hundreds of different pictures from the newspapers.
This artist explains that being able to use black and white, as depicted in the clippings she collected, allows her to paint in an old fashioned way. In order to create larger scenic painting, she adds, she cuts out pictures of animals and object. The mural that stretches 15 by 4 feet to her family room is actually a product of a newspaper cut-out of two millstones. In the photo, grey mill wheels blend perfectly with the rustic millhouse by the riverbank. If you like our article on paintings then check out photograph to oil painting.
The artist makes it clear that the mural on the wall is the result of incorporating all her photograph detailing techniques, which she also uses for weather board buildings, farm crops and equipment, and wood land animal paintings. Water is the one thing that she needs there. Water is not very difficult to use because it dries fast.
The artist displayed a new picture clipped from a newspaper and said she'll use it soon. It has snow in it. Snow is far easier than anything else because it goes fast. She only has two smaller scenes besides the mural that are hung around her home. But she says the she has painted countless paintings and sold them or gave them away.
She brings her paintings to a furniture store in Hagerstown Maryland to sell them. She also paints at the request of friends and neighbors. The artist is so busy with too many orders coming from all directions. People like to wrap her paintings and send them out as Christmas presents so she gets more orders during this season. In Rockingham County, she has a nice old lady neighbor who gave her some painting lessons when she was 13 years old. For only 25 cents, she got lessons and sat painting for a whole afternoon. Using a drill and a paring knife, her mother made her a small pallet from a lightweight board. It was her first and she displayed it. Decoupage on it was a note about how it was made and it was stained with paint all over.
She made a family room in their home dedicated to items from their church that has been put down about six years ago. You could easily see the river from their house through a glass wall, which entirely covers one face of the room. She said that it was done to bring in the woods and the nature indoors.
As she was painting the mural, she wanted something fit inside the room. Three quarters through she sand papered the painting off because the children didn't like the way she mixed the gold the reds and the rusts. Since other paintings and the sunny den would most likely not get noticed, and that the attention of people will just go the mural, she decided that she would keep her house as it is.
