Over a period of time, this tetchy fisherman has bought a large collection of fishing supplies, but no matter what, I return to purchasing Hardy products. Priced at about £429.00, the MK VII certainly would be an investment for some anglers. But I would feel better buying a few items of top-notch fly fishing tackle than a boatload of inexpensive gear that's like to fail when I need it most. The Bougle's frame, spool, and plate are constructed from durable 6061 aluminium. Curious, I looked up 6061 aluminium, and learned that it's a strong aluminium alloy that contains silicon and magnesium as its principal alloying elements. 6061 aluminium has superior mechanical properties, and is easy to weld. Such features place it among the most widely used aluminium alloys for day to day use. Thus, I was contented to know that it was utilised in the MK VII reel.
Fly Fishing Tackle: More About the Hardy Bougle MK VII (MK7) Reel
Another quality feature in the construction of this reel is that the aluminium is polished before it's anodised, which gives maximum protection. Also, if you own other MK series reels like I do, know that the spools interchange amongst the MK4, MK5, and MK6 versions. Additionally, this Bougle MK VII comes with a stainless steel ball race to ensure extra smooth functioning. The reel has a sturdy, spinning nickel-silver line guard. The reel's click check system sounds great to my ears, plus it comes with an excellent, wide range. The designers at Hardy have really gotten it right with this reel, even for a demanding angler like me. It is simple to adjust it from left-handed winding to right-handed winding. This reel's back is held on via a sturdy dovetail fit and also a couple of deterioration-defiant stainless steel screws. You can put about 225m of line on the MK VII. The reel has a 101m diameter, and a 256g weight.

Over 100 years ago, an angler named Louis Bougle asked Hardy to develop a reel that was light enough, yet had sufficient line capacity to accommodate the lighter rods of the era.
